about

THE MESSAGE: A photograph taken from the Voyager I space probe as its camera turned to look back to the Earth, offered us a unique image: it revealed Earth as a minuscule pale blue dot in an infinite dark sky. The image has been used to underline the fragility of the Earth we live and depend upon. Beyond the quest for knowledge, the spacecraft carried a hopeful message to any life form that might chance to interpret it: a ‘golden record’ fixed to the side of the tiny craft with recordings and images of life on Earth. This endeavour chimed with the remarkable Greta Thunberg, whose silent message was heard and galvanised young people to join with others fighting for our planet.... solarsystem.nasa.gov resources/536/voyager-1s-pale-blue-dot/

THE MESSAGE by Carol Fieldhouse

Blue dot circling in a midnight sky
Blue
Pixel small in boundless night
Vanishing from view
‘Hear me’

A young girl’s protest, people passing by
Truth
She listens, as the science roars
Her vigil makes the news
‘Join me’

Voyager travels onwards
A tiny spec of hope
Golden Record, The Message
The best of Earth

A new wind’s blowing, hold your banners high
Shout
Smooth browed children wake a sleeping world
‘Hear Us! Hear Us!’

Voyager travels onwards
A tiny spec of hope
Golden Record, The Message
The best of Earth
Blue dot circling in a midnight sky
‘Hear me’
